Terms of Service
Last updated August 5, 2026
The service
Heirloom is a family-history platform: you can build and import family trees, explore curated historical archives, and use AI tools to enrich your research. Heirloom is currently in preview — features may change, and paid plans are not yet available.
Your data is yours
You keep all rights to the family data, photos, and stories you add. You grant us only the hosting and processing rights needed to run the service for you (storing your data, rendering it, and passing it to the AI provider when you invoke an AI feature). You can export your trees as GEDCOM or delete them at any time.
Your responsibilities
Only upload content you have the right to share, and be thoughtful about living relatives: if you make a tree public, you are responsible for having a lawful basis to publish the information in it. (Living people are automatically redacted from public views, but the safest choice for sensitive data is keeping the tree private.)
Don't abuse the service — no attempts to access other users' private data, disrupt the platform, or use it for unlawful purposes.
Curated archives and AI content
Curated historical archives are generated from public sources (such as Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons) and may contain errors; they are research starting points, not authoritative genealogy. AI-generated portraits and stories are clearly creative reconstructions — they are labeled as such and should never be treated as historical records.
Accounts
You're responsible for keeping your credentials safe. You can reset your password from the reset page. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.
Warranty and liability
Heirloom is provided "as is" during the preview, without warranties. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you have paid us (currently: nothing). Keep exports of research you can't afford to lose.
Changes
If these terms change materially, we'll note it on this page with a new date. See also the Privacy Policy.
